Tips for strong and healthy hair

  1. Get regular hair cuts. The only way to get rid of spit ends is to trim them off. Treatments that suggest they repair split ends only hide them, which doesn’t do your hair any good.
  2. If you are going to trim your own fringes then use hair scissors. All hairdressers know that you like to trim your own hair every now and again, which is fine but if you do please use hair scissors, they are specially designed for cutting hair. Regular scissors will damage your hair.
  3. Do a conditioning treatment once a week. Leave it on for as long as possible. If you cant afford one, use your regular conditioner and leave it on for a few hours or over night.
  4. Heat protection, if you are using any heat on your hair, you should be using heat protection spray every time.
  5. Condition your hair every time you shampoo it. Not only does it make your hair feel soft and smooth but it closes the cuticle keeping it healthy. If your hair gets greasy just don’t use as much and only put it on the ends but still use it.
  6. Shampoo your hair more often. Shampooing your hair everyday is not bad for your hair if you are conditioning after (which you should be). If you are using heat on your hair and then skipping a shampoo, you are probably using heat on it the day after which is doing double the damage. Heat over heat is not a good combination, it needs the conditioner to get the moisture back into the hair. So shampoo and condition more.
  7. If you have coloured hair and it fades quick, you need to use the correct products. Another way to help this is shampooing the roots (the parts that get greasy) and conditioning the ends. It keeps it healthy and stops the colour fading as quickly.
  8. Try not to use as much heat. If you have naturally curly hair, go with it every now and then. If your hair is quite straight anyway use your hands and serum to smooth it out as your blowdrying (you may not need to use the straighteners after). Leave it to dry and then use straighteners or curlers. The less heat the better.
  9. Ask your hairdresser about protein additives that you can add into your hair colour to protect your hair and make the colour last longer.
  10. Massage your scalp when shampooing. Massaging your scalp helps  with blood flow, which helps with healthy hair, stress and is great for your scalp.
  11. Keep your hair out of the sun. Wear a hat. The sun damages, dries and makes hair colour fade rapidly.
  12. Do not rub your hair with a towel. Pat dry, never rub as this damages the hair shaft and weakens your hair.
  13. If your going into the sea/swimming pool then protect your hair. Use products like leave in conditioner as it creates a barrier and stops the water from damaging your hair.
  14. Be healthy. Your health effects your hair more then you think. Drink plenty of water, eat healthy and exercise.
  15. If you are going to use hairspray, spray it at least 30 cm away from the hair. Spraying it too close causes it to dry out and weaken the hair.
